Some of nature’s smallest inhabitants are the easiest to overlook.
A tiny wood mouse pauses for a moment, alert and bright-eyed, its whiskers reaching out into the space around it. A familiar little creature, perhaps, but one filled with extraordinary detail when we take the time to really look.
From the softness of its fur and delicate paws to its tiny ears and fine whiskers, Small Wonders celebrates the beauty found in one of our quieter wild neighbours.
Painted in acrylic on a piece of reclaimed Welsh slate, the natural texture, layered edges and irregular shape of the stone have deliberately been left visible. Rather than simply providing a surface to paint upon, the slate becomes part of the artwork itself, giving this little mouse a landscape shaped by the history of the material beneath it.
Every mark has been painted by hand, capturing the smallest details while preserving the individual character of the reclaimed stone.
This original artwork is part of my ongoing exploration of wildlife, reclaimed objects and the creatures we often pass by without noticing. It is an invitation to pause, to look more closely, and to discover how much beauty can exist in the smallest of things.
Finished with a protective satin varnish, Small Wonders is ready to display and makes a distinctive addition to any wildlife art, natural history Collection.
Every original artwork is individually hand painted by wildlife artist Liisa Clark in her Buckinghamshire studio, inspired by her lifelong fascination with the natural world.
