‘Beneath Us All’
Original Human Skull Painting on Reclaimed Vintage Circular Saw Blade
Beneath everything, we are remarkably alike.
A human skull emerges from the dark surface of a reclaimed circular saw blade, stripped of all the things we use to distinguish ourselves from one another. What remains is the extraordinary structure beneath us all.
Rather than representing death, the skull becomes an object of natural history: something familiar yet rarely considered, inviting us to look more closely at the intricate framework that quietly carries us through life.
Painted in acrylic on a reclaimed vintage circular saw blade, Beneath Us All brings together anatomy and industrial history. The blade, once used to cut and shape timber, now becomes the surface for a study of our own place within the natural world.
Every mark has been painted by hand, allowing areas of the original steel and the character of the reclaimed blade to remain part of the finished artwork.
This original artwork is part of my ongoing exploration of nature, anatomy, reclaimed objects and the details we often pass by without noticing. It is an invitation to pause, to look more closely, and perhaps to remember that we are not separate from nature, but part of it.
Every original artwork is individually hand painted by wildlife artist Liisa Clark in her Buckinghamshire studio, inspired by a lifelong fascination with the natural world.
